Community college

Commissioned by a city Councillor of the time, this was a proposal for the implementation and enhancement of social activities in the Verona suburban areas. The college was intended to host activities such as English and Information Technology classes for the elderly.

The layout of the school is intentionally diagrammatic with spaces confined within distinctive blocks connected by a perimeter “spine”. This corridor links the lobby, the administrative section and the classrooms. It is an evocative space, a light-box, with walls of frosted glass that allow the light in and filter the view. The more functional areas, like the classrooms, on the other hand, have high windows which allow light access but remove the potential distraction of a view.  The overall design of the college ensures the building is a modular prototype, able to be prefabricated and installed in various locations around the Verona metropolitan area.
